Rial Racing were a Formula One team from 1988 to 1989. They were founded as a wheel rim producer in the 1970s, before being bought out by Gunther Schmid, and he formed an F1 constructor as he had done with ATS back in the early 1980s.
They raced in 32 races, finishing in the points only twice, both in 4th place, and both in the USA, once each for Italian driver Andrea de Cesaris and German driver Christian Danner. The team wasn’t very competitive and failed to qualify more times than they qualified, especially when they became a two-car team in 1989. Their second car never made it onto the grid, while its first only made it 4 times!
